UTV Registration and Permits
The Village of German Valley has an ordinance that allows slow moving non-highway vehicles (UTV's) to be allowed on Village streets. The following set of restrictions, guidelines, and laws are set forth by the State of Illinois, statute 625 ILCS 5/11-1426.1.
Driver's must be over 16 years of age and carry a valid driver's license. Liability insurance is required by the State of Illinois. All vehicles must be inspected and apply for a 3-year Village of German Valley permit, which can be suspended or revoked for non-compliance of Ordinance. All Illinois Rules of the Road will be adhered to at all times.
All Vehicles Must have the following Equipment Set Forth by the State of Illinois:
•Seat belts for each Passenger
•Brakes
•Steering Apparatus
•Tires
•Rearview mirror
•Reflectors on Front and Rear
•Headlight(s) that emit(s) 500 ft.
•Tail Lamp that is visible for 100 ft.
•Brake Lights that are visible for 100 ft.
•Turn Signals that are visible for 100 ft.
Registration Permit is required to be affixed to the vehicle.
Registration and Inspection
For registration and inspection of your UTV, please contact Officer McClain through this website by navigating to the bottom of any page on this website. Then click/tap on Contact Us. On the "Contact Us" page under Department to Contact, choose Village Police. Fill out the rest of the electronic form and click/tap on Submit. Officer McClain should contact you within 24 hours of receiving your message.
When you meet with Officer McClain, You will need to bring:
1. the vehicle for inspection
2. proof of insurance
3. drivers license information for all registered drivers
4. your completed Village of German Valley Police Department UTV Checklist and Permit
The cost is $75 for a 3-year registration.
